“The best way out is always through.” – Robert Frost

That is basically saying that when things are happening and you aren’t sure what to do with them, just deal with it. Go through the motion, through the door, through the tough time. And know that one you are through, you are basically done. The best way out is through, to get out of a situation–get through it. Don’t avoid it because it will linger and make everything a lot harder.

“Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.” –Victor Hugs

Winter is cold. Well no crap it is cold. When someone is sad, down, angry, or just not in the best mood, they tend to be cold inside. In general though, when people are upset, they can be uncomfortably cold. Laughter, like the sun, leaves a warm feeling inside.

“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.” –Upanishads

What you words are thoughts put out there, actions are words playing through, and your actions are who you are. If you are thinking about nasty things, you will say nasty things, do nasty things, and become a nasty person. On the other hand, if you think nice things, say nice things, do nice things, you will become a nice person. At TGS, a lot of people complain. Granted, if something is wrong, it needs to be brought to attention. Yet, if people are always focusing on the negative, their character becomes very pessimistic.

“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” –St. Francis of Assisi

In your life, you first need to prioritize what you absolutely need. These include eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, keeping in contact with your family, and schoolwork. (Notice that among these 5 ground rules is work) Then the possible,

Prioritizing is a massive thing in your life, and if you don’t do it—your life is a wreck.

Unfortunately, I kind of skewed my priority list.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” –Thomas Edison

I really like this quote. Work honestly does pay off, whether it is the satisfaction of being done, or the acknowledgement you receive, or the thing that you were working toward. To make the best of something, you need persistence and sorry but it is necessary to get your hands dirty. If you don’t take the jump and invest yourself in something, Opportunity drives by in its fixer-upper with a beautiful interior.

Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.” – ralph waldo emerson

Happiness is some psychological thing that releases endorphins and stuff. When you are trying to get someone else to be happy, you end up smiling and releasing the hormones that stimulate “happy” and therefore you become happier.

Lets get some of those hormones up in here!

“People don’t just get upset. They contribute to their upsetness.” -Albert Ellis

Wow. Martino’s quotes are like speaking to me or something. When people are upset, they pity themselves, which make them even more upset. It seems that people either work to be un-upset, or they feed it because they want to feel moody and hate the world for a little bit. It is also easy to be sad, and then look for reasons to be even more sad.

“Sometimes our fate resembles a fruit tree in winter. Who would think that those branches would turn green again and blossom, but we hope it, we know it.“ -Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

We all go through some pretty crappy times. Those are the winters. Those times where we are feeling down, stressed out, and in a dark hole without a speck of light. I know that I am in a hole right now. I went through a harsh winter in Boston where I had too much on my plate, and just wasn’t really taking care of myself—physical and mental. I had a short and unsuccessful spring and summer where I tried to relax and decompress, but the green and the flowers weren’t as bright during that time. I was still recovering from the harsh winter and long winter. Coming back to school, it is autumn. It is a beautiful time where there is new things, new people, new country, everything. But those things that I tried to ignore during spring and summer caught up to me. All of the responsibilities and stress was not rid, but instead put on hold until the weather started growing chilly. I am trying to hold out, I am a bit afraid to go back to that place where the lights are dim and the spark is burnt out. Back to that dark room with no doors and no windows.
